BuJ,

This is Carlos Latuff, the great Brazilian cartoonist.

Here's one of my favorites:
http://sabbah.biz/mt/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/misuse_of_anti_semitism_4_by_latuff2.jpg

They even tried to sue him (or the publication he works for), can you imagine?

From his wikipedia page:

In 2002 the Swiss-based Jewish organization Aktion Kinder des Holocaust sued the Independent Media Center (IMC, also known as Indymedia) of Switzerland on the charge of anti-Semitism. The reason was a cartoon of Latuff's We are all Palestinians series, published in Swiss IMC website, which depicted a Jewish boy in Warsaw Ghetto saying: "I am Palestinian."[19][20][21] The criminal proceedings were suspended by Swiss court.[22]

I don't think you fully appreciate the genius of this cartoon. It is a spoof on the myth that vampires are terrified of crosses. Netanyahu is depicted as a vampire while "Mother Palestine" is the virtuous Christian, who chases away the blood sucker with her version of the cross: the key.

Latuff, who won a prize in a contest of caricatures mocking the Holocaust, would have that kind of mindset. The Holocaust could happen because people had been conditioned to accept cruelty to Jews by centuries long indoctrination in the myth of the blooducking Jew, the anti-Christ Jew and what not. Latuff is one cog in the vast anti-Israel propaganda machine which works hard at making people think of Israelis (actually, Jews)in a certain way. He is doing his faithful part in building up for a second Holocaust, by dehumanizing and demonizing Israelis.

And it is little wonder that you, who spoke of the Hebron "massacre" would find this kind of humour appealing.

______

BTW, it is also a misreading of the vampire myth. Because obviously Israelis are not going anyway no matter how many keys are thrusted at them. It is more of a wishful thinking rather than any realistic projection of the status quo.

Certainly this kind of cartoon and your admiration for it are unlikely to persuade Israelis that they can trust their Palestinian Arab neighbors to make genuine peace.

A proof that Latuff was absolutely right in the cartoon I'd linked to.

Wow, thanks DJ for opening my eyes to Carlos Latuff.. I googled him a bit and he looks so brazilian too :) His works are brilliant.

I think I will dedicate a series of posts on my blog to his cartoons, for it seems he is popular amongst Arabs and Jews alike :)

"I think I will dedicate a series of posts on my blog to his cartoons,"

It is highly recommended that you should follow through on this intention. It will be interesting to link to that series of posts from my blog. A real time example of what kind of material excites Arab bloggers and their readership. Visiting your blog provides invaluable education, like a virtual walk in the fabled "Arab street" which is so dreaded in the West.

There are a few Arab bloggers who would be appalled by this kind of irresponsible, juvenile, self-indulgence, (like the Egyptian Sandmonky), but they are, alas, a voice in the desert.

No, they're traitors that should be killed.

CC,

Kindly note who you are, where you are, and who you are addressing.

The comments section is for the sharing of informed opinion. There is no room for your insults here.

The Contentious Centrist said...

What insults? I commended you on your moral courage for planning to publish the cartoons of an artist who participated in a competition for caricaturizing the Holocaust and pointed out what an informative and refreshing experience it is to visit a blog in English which has no problem with such vile material.

The "Arab street" is a bona fide term used often in the MSM to designate Pan-Arab public opinion, Arabic sentiments, pan-Muslim sentiments.

Where are the insults?

Aren;t you, perhaps, sitting in a glass house?

Great idea BuJ.

Sounds like we’ve found something to piss off the Zionist hoodlums real bad. :)

I’ve just posted one myself, everybody is welcome to comment. :)

Dubai Jazz, pronounces a nice principle:

"...it's the job of intelligent people to try to find common grounds and reduce the tone of hatred. "

and here Dubai Jazz's way of living up to it::

"Sounds like we’ve found something to piss off the Zionist hoodlums real bad. :)"

I wonder, what may we deduce from this strange dissonance between a fine ethical sentiment followed up immediately by aggressive animus about Arab leaders when they speak of peace?

CC,

...followed up immediately by aggressive animus...

So, let me get this straight: you really get pissed off when I or BuJ publish cartoons that portray the suffering of Palestinian people? or highlight the struggle for homeland from their point of view?

How can I help you, intelligent as I may be, when you're totally devoid of compassion?

BuJ said...

FYI, I've just enabled moderation until further notice.

At my blog you exchange ideas and not insults.

Everyone please calm down and come back when you have something new to say.

Thank you :)

Buj, hi I'm Omar from London. I've tangled with The Contentious Centrist and her cohorts on the subject of Palestine. She often uses "factual" ,pro-Zionist sources to bolster her arguments so there's no reason why
those on the anti-Zionist side can't use the same techniques.
I highly recommend this site:

http://www.palestineremembered.com/

It is run by diaspora Palestinians and not pro-Israelis posing as an impartial source like "palestinefacts."

You need to brush up a bit more on your facts and history as we all know how well-funded and organized
the pro-Zionists are. Many are professional propagandists.

You translate directly Holocaust denial as compassion for Palestinians?

Latuff has excluded himself from human morality by participating in a Holocaust denial cartoon competition. No decent, or self-respecting, blogger is going to trot him out as a champion of human rights for anybody. You and Buj congratulate yourself on hitting the proverbial jackpot by "discovering" that Jews are deeply insulted by this person and what he represents. This says a great deal about your ethics and worldview.

Do not delude yourselves that your contempt for Jews is inspired by your compassion for Palestinians.

_________

Omar, the revolutionary Marxist, who advocates a second Holocaust, meets two Arab reactionaries exilerated by a Holocaust-denying cartoonist, and wonder of wonders, they all get along.

Dubai Jazz said...

Typical Zionist tactics :)

They can’t rebut the argument with logic so they resort to name calling and strawmanship.

Well, they called Obama an anti-semite. So, the term, like an overused condom, is losing its appeal.

You translate directly Holocaust denial as compassion for Palestinians?

I think you’re the one whose morality is in question here: do you equate compassion for the Palestinian people with holocaust denial?

I don’t see a holocaust denial cartoon here, all I see is one showing the significance of the right of return versus a right wingnut like Bibi. Read the Likud manifesto, they categorically deny a state for the Palestinians or the right of return.

Do not delude yourselves that your contempt for Jews is inspired by your compassion for Palestinians.

Obviously, you’re the one devoid of compassion for the palestinians. No one here brought up contempt for jews except you.

So in short, if a cartoon that illustrate suffering of the Palestinian people, or their aspiration for a homeland pisses you off, then the kind of professional help you’d need isn’t really here.

Latuff is clearly a very, very talented artist. But he is also a morally very questionable person. The equation between the Holocaust and what is happening in Palestine is a form of "softcore" Holocaust denial.

The cartoon Dubai Jazz links to seems to be saying that Israel labels people antisemitic... in order to shoot them. When the Contentious Centrist labels Latuff as antisemitic, Dubai Jazz says that this is "proof that Latuff was absolutely right in the cartoon I'd linked to." In other words, Contentious Centrist raising her objection to a racist cartoon is tantamount to shooting someone?

Omar: "You need to brush up a bit more on your facts and history as we all know how well-funded and organized the pro-Zionists are. Many are professional propagandists." Erm, The Contentious Centrist is part of a well-oiled well-funded global propaganda machine? Please...

"Omar, the revolutionary Marxist, who advocates a second Holocaust..."

Allow me to translate from the Zionist-fanatic dialect that CC uses. Her "Holocaust" is a result of my suggestion that Palestine be a shared homeland with a majority Palestinian govt reflecting the demographic percentages before the creation of the state of Israel. No one has to be expelled from the land. And this she calls a second Holocaust.

Very interesting to see how Christian Jew-hatred is being transformed in today's context. Rather than "supporting the Palestinians", the cartoon turns Palestinians into an object of violence against the Jews. (The Palestinians are not humanized. They are rather transformed into the "key" in the assault on Jews.) The cartoon would be very popular amongst Christian fundamentalists, as it dehumanizes both Palestinians and Jews.
